Make Your Own Sushi Party

May 5, 2021

Sushi Making is Fun for Groups

We love setting up a sushi station for parties, celebrations, or just a fun family night! Making easy, non-complicated sushi is simple and affordable.

Sushi is an experience. Like making homemade pizza, everyone can do their own and it becomes an activity as well as a meal.

We recently made sushi for my son’s 18th birthday with the extended family. It was a blast for all ages.

Prepare the Ingredients

Cut the vegetables in strips, soften the cream cheese, and prepare the sushi rice.

We bought sushi mats and use those for the sushi making station. This mat is also good for beginners.

Watch the Video to Learn How To Make Sushi

In this video I use my hands to roll, but you can use the mat all the way through. I’ve learned how to get a tight roll using my fingers.

Part of the fun is learning how you like making it best!

Make Your Own Sushi Recipe

You will love the experience of making sushi rolls with your family and friends.  This is an easy recipe!

  • Author: Krista Gilbert

Ingredients

1 package Nori (seaweed sheets)

Prepared sushi rice (the bag will say “sushi rice”) for 4-6 people

1 English cucumber, cut into matchsticks

2 long carrots, cut into matchsticks

1 avocado

8 oz cream cheese, sliced into rectangles

1/2 lb. SUSHI GRADE salmon or ahi (it must be sushi grade fish – ask for it)

Optional: Siracha, Soy Sauce, & Wasabi

Instructions

Place the Nori on a sushi mat and spread a thin layer of cooked sushi rice over the entire square.
Layer the cucumber, carrots, cream cheese, and avocados over the rice horizontally.  Wrap the roll tightly.
To cut: First cut off the ends of the sushi roll.  Then cut a slice down the middle.  Cut the sushi into small pieces with a sharp knife.

Serve with: wasabi, soy sauce, and/or siracha

I love meals that double as an experience! This one checks that box.
