No matter what the season, curling up with a book and a blanket is one of my favorite things. If it is in the summer, a hammock or a lawn chair is my place of choice. If it’s winter, I adore snuggling in by a fire.
Books transport us to another place or time, engage us in heartfelt story, or teach us. I once read that reading a non-fiction book translates to 10 years of wisdom that we wouldn’t otherwise have. Interesting thought.
So whether it is to an adult or to a child, giving the gift of a book is a beautiful gesture that has impact beyond the paper pages.
For children, books nurture learning. It helps develop critical thinking skills and cognitive growth. Good readers often become great learners and thinkers.
What better gift to give an adult or a child than a book and a cozy blanket?
For our Treat Your Family Like Guests series, here is your challenge today:
Refer to The Favorites list that you had your child or spouse fill out. If you haven’t already done it, order their favorite book (look at the used section for better prices). If they didn’t list a favorite book, order the book that was your favorite as a child.
Pick up a cozy blanket as well — stores such as Target, TJ Maxx, or Costco have great deals on warm and soft blankets.
Lay the book onto the blanket and wrap with twine. Attach one of these tags to the twine.
You can download the tags here: Book.PDF.Tags
Here is a list of 10 books the whole family can enjoy, no matter what age:
- The Chronicles of Narnia
- The Lord of the Rings
- Where the Red Fern Grows
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Charlotte’s Webb
- Little House on the Praire
