Fall-my favorite season

Apple butter takes me right back to Lancaster, Pennsylvania Amish country where I first sampled this thick, spice infused goodness.  The laundry, hung out to dry, gently swayed in the wind next to rows and rows of corn that summer morning. A buggy driven by a stately man dressed in all black with the Amish [...]

This past weekend, we held our annual Hootenanny.  It’s a tradition that warms the very core of my heart and soul for so many reasons. This is my big sister.  10 years ago, I told her I wanted to start a tradition — a big fall party called The Hootenanny.  And in Kendra-style, who is [...]

Happy November!   I adore this month because we are focused on giving thanks.  It’s built in to the seasonal rhythms we follow. Fall delicioiusness on a plate is what this is.  An original Paula Dean recipe, it’s worth the effort.   Sprinkle evenly with Streusel topping.  Bake 30 minutes, or until filling is set. Drizzle with caramel topping.

We have a big fall party every year, and instead of carving pumpkins, we use nature to decorate them! Every one is so unique, and kids can easily work independently (no knives involved).    We use low-heat glue guns, sticks, moss, leaves, hay, berries, pinecones, flowers, pine boughs….  basically anything and everything we can find [...]

Apple Day has been a long standing tradition in our house.   This picture makes me want to cry because it is from a couple of years ago, and I just cannot stand how fast they are growing up!  It makes me realize how special this day is in creating all of the warm feelings [...]
