Modern Mountain Remodel: The Home Office

April 15, 2020

Little did we know when we re-did this little space off of the master bedroom that it would become the work horse of 2020 quarantine.

When we bought the hilltop house, one thing we were most excited about was the room off of the master bedroom. It has an incredible view of the mountains with large windows and a fireplace – so very cozy, but it was also a bit dated. The strangest part was the odd trim around the fireplace.

We were excited about transforming this into a home office since I work from home and need a quiet space to podcast.

The Plan:

Remove the track lighting
Paint all of the trim
Paint the walls
Build out a fireplace frame using shiplap and herringbone tile

Add sconces
Add a mantel salvaged from an old barn (found off FB marketplace)
Shiplap the biggest wall opposite the windows

This is Zach, and he did a great job building out the space, and he even got his son to help hang the shiplap.

I would still like to add some built-ins, add new French doors, and change out the flooring but that will come later.

It’s truly one of the happiest rooms in the house and we are spending a ton of time in here these days.  Such a useful investment of time and resources.

What is one of your most used rooms during quarantine?
