Chocolate chip cookies coming out hot from the oven on the first day of school has been a tradition since my kids were young.
Did you know that smell and taste are some of the strongest memory triggers? I love that the smell and taste of freshly baked cookies will always be a part of my kids’ core memories.
So every end of August, I round up the butter, flour, sugar, and chocolate chips and make a triple batch. I freeze dough for later (just roll into balls, freeze on a baking sheet, then store in a ZipLock bag).
Think of all of the people we can bless during back to school days (whether we have kids in school or not): kids, teachers, coaches, neighbors…
Small things MATTER!
I’ve been knee deep in research this week around GROUP CULTURE getting ready for an event with @thetransformationtriad & the results are in- CONSISTENT, SMALL BELONGING CUES are one of the the secrets to success.
And yep- this can happen through chocolate chip cookies.
KG’s First Day of School Chocolate Chip Cookies Tradition
Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies coming out of the oven on the first day of school are a tradition in our family. You will LOVE this recipe!
Ingredients
½ cup Crisco
½ c. butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
3/4 tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Vanilla
2 ½ cups four
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp. Baking powder
1 cup chocolate chips
Sea salt for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions
Beat crisco, butter, and sugars until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time.
Add vanilla and mix.
Slowly add flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
Stir in the chocolate chips (add more if you like – I don’t like too many in the cookie)
Place on a baking sheet and slightly flatten. Sprinkle sea salt flakes over the top (optional).
Bake at 350 for 8 min.
These are the very, very best!
