To All Of You Mamas…
You are doing the most important work. It is often thankless work. It requires tremendous perseverance, endurance, and tenacity. And did I say courage? Oh does it require loads of courage.
We know deep in our spirit how much it matters to not lose heart or falter in times of trial. Our children need us to be people of hope, strength, and dignity, so that one day they can be that too.
Here is a manifesto we can speak out loud together. May we always encourage one another and spur each other on as we do the most important job on earth.
A Motherhood Manifesto
WE BELIEVE IN FAMILY
as a foundation and lighthouse, offering strength for each day, and light for life’s journey. We believe that when God created family, He intended it for unmatched belonging, connection, inspiration, laughter, and celebration.
WE BELIEVE IN HOME
a place to feel known, safe, cared for, at peace. We believe that home is built on love and stands firm with grace. It is less about physical space and more about our life together. Home is tears, sharing, mistakes, and falls. It is our relationships, the way we put food on the table and bow our heads in prayer, the way we manage our time and resources, the way we offer honor and dignity in our marriage, and the sense of heritage we create.
WE BELIEVE IN HUMAN DIGNITY
that every person is created by God for a purpose. We believe that we first teach our children about their identity and worthiness in the home. We believe that though relationships are complicated, it is our privilege to draw out and make room for every story and every unique soul gifted to us to raise.
WE BELIEVE IN COURAGE
Mothering requires that we find courage like buried treasure and use it daily. Courage tells us to get up when we have fallen, to take action when we want to hide, and to look fear in the face. It finds us weak and leaves us strong.
WE BELIEVE IN IMPERFECTION
realizing that the goal has never been perfection, but rather, deep love. It is in the imperfect that we lay relational bricks of humility, honesty, acceptance, kindness, forgiveness, and grace. These breath fresh winds of authenticity and vulnerability.
WE BELIEVE THAT WHAT WE DO WILL HAVE ETERNAL SIGNIFICANCE
Our most important work is not something we do, but someone we raise. All of the hours of seemingly meaningless work is moving us somewhere. Like the Sistine Chapel, we do not see the work of art being created while we have our heads down laying stones. Yet after years, we trust we will step back and see a masterpiece.
AND MOST OF ALL, WE BELIEVE IN LOVE
as the highest good that holds the power of unity, transformation, healing, and joy. It is the secret of families who live closely knit together on an unbroken tapestry. Love has the ability to live in us, through us, and beyond us, outlasting our time on earth. It is the hero of the virtues and the one that mothers embody most.
